About Us

Our Reason For Being

The Patterson Family arrived in Canada from Ireland in 1884.  Worked in Hull, Quebec and surrounding area on farms until 1890 when Gib’s Grandparents purchased 30 acres of garden land on Hunt Club Road, west of Bank Street where the new Airport Parkway and Hunt Club Road intersect.  Buildings were erected and mixed farming commenced to provide fresh food for the people of the City of Ottawa.  Gib’s father was born at the brick farm house in 1900 and later married Myrtle McKeown from Edwards, Ontario.  Gib arrived on March 5th, 1938 born in the same room as his father.  While farming on Hunt Club Road, near the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club and the airport, an appreciation for people, neighbours, work, and family developed Gib’s idea to provide opportunities for others.

Gib’s brother, Ford Patterson, and his family organized the Patterson Berry Farm while Gib’s Family concentrated on golf.  Gib opened Airport Golfland driving range, mini golf, and snack & dairy bar on July 1st, 1971 on Hunt Club Road and Paul Anka Drive. Since then, the Innes Road Golfland, which is still operating on Innes Road in Orleans, opened on July 1st, 1978.

Real estate and development of such interested Gib and his family, thus the opening of Emerald Links Golf and Country Club in July of 1990.  Cloverdale Links Golf Course, known as the Scottish Links style course, started with 9 holes on July 1st, 1996 and the second 9 opened on July 1st, 1998.  On July 1st, 2003, the south 9 was opened at Emerald Links along with the additional one acre building lots.

The opportunity to build Anderson Links Golf and Country Club came along and opened on July 2nd, 2007 with 18 holes and trailers.  The trailers were changed for a new clubhouse for the 2010 golf season. The new south nine at Anderson Links opened May 12th, 2012, coinciding with Gib & Elsie’s 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebrations.  While the construction was taking place, the staff and golf pro’s developed the Ottawa Golf Academy to help everyone improve and enjoy the wonderful game of golf.

Elsie, Gib’s wife since 1962, their four children, and their families have been extremely helpful, cooperative and there when needed.

The extended families have also been very helpful, supportive, and cooperative in the growth of the golf enterprise.  During the golf season more than 200 employees make up the working team at the golf facilities.

Last but not least, it could not have happened without you, the customer.  We thank you every day for your loyal support, now and during the years gone by. We look forward every day to continuing this rewarding relationship.
